X Ads for B2B SaaS

X Ads for B2B SaaS measured by pipeline, not by likes

Paid campaigns on X, formerly Twitter, for software companies that want reach with the right professional and technical audiences, and proof that it turns into demos, trials and pipeline. We plan, launch, measure and optimise campaigns, and we’ll tell you honestly if X isn’t the right channel.

Is X right for you?

Where X can work for B2B software

X can put your product in front of professional and technical audiences who follow topics, people and conversations in your space. It doesn’t offer job title or company targeting, so it’s usually a reach and demand channel that supports others, not a replacement for them. Suitability depends on audience fit, offer, budget, creative, pages and your sales process.

Developer tools and APIs

Technical audiences who follow engineers and tools on X

AI products

Fast moving categories where launches are discussed in real time

Founder led SaaS

Companies whose founders already have an audience or a clear voice

Product led SaaS

Trials or freemium with a quick first win

Category creators

New categories that need awareness before search demand exists

Event and launch moments

Conferences, launches and industry news cycles

Usually worth testing when

  • Your buyers follow industry voices, tools or topics on X
  • You have a clear offer, such as a trial, demo video, guide or event
  • You can track at least a sign up or lead, ideally more
  • You want reach in your category alongside other channels

Another channel may be better when

  • You need to reach specific job titles at named companies, where LinkedIn may fit better
  • Buyers already search for your category, where search ads usually come first
  • You need leads within weeks and have no tracking yet
  • Your category is sensitive to brand safety concerns you can’t accept

What usually goes wrong

The X Ads problems B2B SaaS teams bring us

Most disappointing X campaigns weren’t judged on the right outcome, or weren’t measured well enough to know.

Engagement mistaken for results

Likes and reposts look healthy while demos and trials stay flat.

Audiences that drift

Additive targeting widens reach until the ads reach people who will never buy.

Leads that don’t qualify

Cheap form fills or sign ups that sales can’t use.

Tracking that breaks

Redirects strip the click ID, events fire on page load, and nothing reaches the CRM.

Brand suitability worries

Uncertainty about what your ads appear next to.

Judging too early

A few days of clicks used to decide on a channel with long sales cycles.

How X targeting works

Widen with signals, narrow with filters

On X, audience types such as keywords, topics, interests and follower look alikes are additive, so each one you add widens the audience. Filters such as location and language narrow it. Getting that balance right is most of the targeting work. X doesn’t target by job title or company, so research decides which signals point to your buyers.

Audience signals, each one widens reach

KeywordsPeople who recently searched for or posted about terms you choose
Conversation topicsOver 10,000 topics in 25 categories, strongest in English speaking markets
Interests25 categories and over 350 sub topics
Follower look alikesPeople with interests similar to the followers of accounts you name
Your followersPeople who already follow your account
Custom audiencesYour lists or site visitors, at least 100 matched users

Filters, each one narrows it

LocationCountries, regions or cities you sell in
LanguageMatched to your ads and pages
Device and platformWhere it matters for your product
AgeRarely needed for B2B

Exclusions

Customers, recent sign ups, existing trials and job seekers, using custom audiences.

Separate tests

Follower look alikes and interests run in separate ad groups so we can see which works.

Interest isn’t intent

Someone who follows a topic may be curious, not buying. Lead quality decides what stays.

Objectives and bidding

Choose the objective for the result you need

X optimises delivery for the objective you pick. For demos and trials, the Sales objective optimises toward a website conversion event, which needs the X Pixel or Conversion API working first. Awareness objectives are judged on awareness measures, not leads.

X sets bids to get the most results for your budget. X’s recommended default.

Target cost

Aims for an average cost per result.

Maximum bid

Caps what you pay, which can limit delivery.

Ad creative and messaging

Short, specific and worth the click

Ads on X compete with a fast moving timeline. The ones that work say who they’re for, name a real problem, show the product honestly and give one clear next step that matches the landing page.

Formats we plan for

  • Image ads
  • Video ads, including vertical video
  • Carousel ads
  • Text posts with a link

Availability can vary by objective and account.

Treating impressions as revenue

Watch for
Vague or inaccurate technical claims

Measure
Assisted conversions and later stage pipeline
Watch for
Expecting instant conversions

Remarketing

Visitors and engagers who return and convert
Watch for
Audiences below the 100 user minimum

Setup, management and testing

Change things for a reason

Frequent changes don’t improve performance on their own. We test one question at a time and decide when there’s enough data, weighing campaign volume, tracking accuracy, conversion delays, sales cycle length and what a customer is worth.

What we test, in order

  1. 1AudienceKeywords vs topics vs follower look alikes
  2. 2OfferDemo vs trial vs useful resource
  3. 3MessageProblem vs outcome vs proof
  4. 4FormatImage vs video vs carousel
  5. 5DestinationLanding page vs sign up page

Structure

Campaigns by goal, ad groups by targeting type, so results can be compared.

Audience and placement

Signals, filters, exclusions and brand safety settings configured.

Creative

Several variations per ad group, each testing one idea.

Budget and bids

Budgets sized to learn, pacing watched daily at launch.

Conversion events

The event each campaign optimises toward, checked as active.

Launch checks

Pixel, links, redirects, landing pages and ad policies reviewed.

Conversion tracking

Six outcomes, never treated as one

X counts a conversion within its attribution window, by default 30 days after engaging with an ad and 1 day after viewing one. Your analytics and CRM will count differently, and platform conversions aren’t always extra customers you wouldn’t have won anyway. We report each source separately.

X Pixel

A base code on every page plus event code for actions such as leads and sign ups.

Conversion API

Server to server events, including ones the browser misses or that happen later. A shared conversion ID stops double counting.

Click ID kept intact

Redirects can strip the X click ID, so landing page paths are checked.

UTMs and CRM

Tagged traffic in analytics, and qualified leads or activation where your systems allow.

  1. 1ClickSomeone visited your site
  2. 2Lead or sign upThey submitted a form or created an account
  3. 3Qualified leadSales agrees they’re a real prospect
  4. 4Activated userThey reached a first real result
  5. 5Paying customerThey pay, and keep paying
  6. 6Acquisition costSpend and fees per paying customer

X can’t see qualified leads, activation or revenue on its own. Those need your CRM or product data, connected with consent and privacy rules respected.

Brand suitability

Decide where you don’t want to appear

Some B2B teams hold back from X over brand concerns. X offers controls that reduce, but can’t remove, the chance of appearing near content you’d rather avoid. We set them to your threshold before launch and review placements as campaigns run.

1

Sensitivity settings

An automated control in Ads Manager that reduces how often ads appear next to content above your chosen sensitivity level.

2

Adjacency controls

Keep ads away from posts with keywords or from accounts you exclude.

3

Third party verification

Pre bid suitability through an industry partner, available to some advertisers and markets.

Budget management and reporting

What reports cover, and what they need

We manage budgets against agreed goals, watch pacing and move spend to what’s working on reliable evidence. Not every measure is available for every account.

X and other channels

Where X sits in your paid mix

No channel is better for every SaaS company. X usually earns its place as a reach and demand channel next to search and LinkedIn. Comparisons only mean something with the same goals, markets and conversion definitions.

Questions about X Ads for B2B SaaS

Still have a question? Book a free call and ask us directly.

For some. X tends to suit developer tools, AI products, founder led companies and categories discussed in real time. It doesn’t target by job title or company, so sales led companies selling to specific accounts often do better on LinkedIn.
